Dear Beacon Hill International School Families,

Welcome to a brand new school year!

Beacon Hill International School has become an integral part of our community due to the continual support from parents like you. The Beacon Hill Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a small but important part of this community that strives to enrich our students’ experiences through advocacy, leadership, and most importantly, financial assistance for school programs.

Due to the PTA’s assistance, our students have tissues, cleaners, markers and notebooks to start the school year with no cost to our parents. Classrooms are stocked and ready for students on the first day!

We also organize events for our community like the Lunar New Year and Día del Niño celebrations as well as the Beacon Bazaar.

In addition, we help provide after-school sports programs, STEM and Hour of Code, 5th grade camp, Young Authors day, and new library books, to name a few.

Every year the PTA holds two large fundraising events: the fall Read-A-Thon and the spring Walk-A-Thon. In the past, these events have generated enough funds from the Beacon Hill community to create annual budget surpluses to help the next year’s programs.

Unfortunately this year several of our programs are in jeopardy. As we start the school year, we are asking our school families to help us with the following programs:

    • After School Sports ($1500)
    • 5th Grade Camp ($4500)
    • STEM and Hour of Code ($1000)
    • New Library Books ($1500)
    • Teacher stipends ($5000)

Although these numbers seem overwhelming at first glance they are achievable. Every donation helps no matter the amount.

Please take the time to consider donating to the PTA to help us provide these great programs to our children. You may include a check in the envelope sent home with this letter and send it back to school with your student. You can also mail the check to us or donate online using the form below. We are grateful for your generosity. Other ways to financially support the PTA are listed below.

We want to emphasize that funding is NOT the main focus of the PTA. We want to spend our time advocating for racial equity in our school and continue building community and strengthening relationships. There are other ways to be involved in your student’s education! Volunteer in the classroom, attend school events, attend teacher conferences, talk about homework with your child.

PTA membership is just another way to be involved. Paying dues and becoming a member means that you are a member of the National PTA, Washington State PTA, Seattle Council PTA, and our own BHIS PTA. PTA membership is not necessary to be involved in our school community. We hope everyone will come to our meetings and events, regardless of membership. If you want to be a member, the form is in this packet.

We are proud and honored to be a part of the BHIS community and are looking forward to another year getting to know each other and enjoying our amazing and unique school.

BHIS PTA: Supporting a World of Learners

Your donations help us strengthen Beacon Hill International School – a unique place where cultural diversity, language learning, and family involvement are lifted up. With your help our PTA can fund music and the arts, environmental learning, before and after school programs, and much more. Thank you for making a generous gift to our World of Learners on Beacon Hill!

    Membership and Volunteering

There are many ways to get involved. You can participate in our PTA, donate funds, and volunteer in the classrooms and at school events. BHIS PTA is always looking for new members who are willing to share their time, skills, and talents to support and enhance our children’s education.

Joining the PTA is an important part of playing an active role in your child’s experience at BHIS. PTA membership helps fund the programs that we support and improves our ability to communicate with the school administration, the teachers and you!
